On March 12, 2025, Dr. Régulo G. Franco Jordán, a world-renowned Peruvian archaeologist and former director of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Machu Picchu, was a guest of the UNESCO Chair at USI. As part of the Master in International Tourism, he delivered a lecture titled “From the Moche to the Inca: A journey through Peruvian archaeology from the Lady of Cao to Machu Picchu”.
Dr. Franco Jordán also addressed key challenges in heritage conservation, particularly the impact of overtourism on Machu Picchu. Looking ahead, he introduced his upcoming expedition to the Pitusiray mountains, a site which may be connected to the origins of the Inca civilisation.
